The objective for this assignment was to design conceptual images for a magazine spread displaying the article “Why are we so Angry?” written by Charles Duhigg. After reading the article, I was most moved by the statements about how people are angered more by distant groups of people that are easy to demonize, rather than people we personally know. This means that our anger is less likely to come to a resolution. I wanted to play off of this statement and thought of how animals often think in a pack mentality. I wanted to emphasize the animalistic behaviors of society that occur when our anger takes away from our civility. I was especially drawn to images of snarling animals for this project, and thought this would be a great opportunity to incorporate collage. The collage work lends more emphasis to the idea of the chaos that occurs within anger.
